How to pick the best wine travel case?

A wine suitcase is a safe and insulated way to travel with your precious bottles of wine. Travel wine cases specifically are made to hold your bottles, keep them from breaking, over-heating, exploding, and the top wine luggage is also TSA approved for checking.

Why you need a wine travel case

If you are flying, you do not actually have to worry about your wine exploding. However, you do have to worry about breakage. Checked baggage is handled roughly to put it mildly. Your wine is going to go through a lot and we all want to keep our wine babies safe and secure.

You are also going to have to check your bottles of wine, unless they were purchased after going through security. TSA regulation only allows a person to carry on as many 3.4 ounce bottles that can fit in one clear quart size plastic bag.

There is NO LIMIT, however, on how much wine you can check with your checked luggage! TSA only limits bottles of alcohol that are above 24%. Luckily for us, most wine is under this percentage, so feel free to load up!

Hot Tip: If traveling with other spirits, travelers may take up to 5 liters of alcohol that is between 24%-70% alcohol per person in a checked luggage.

Shipping can be an expensive alternative

So you can have your wine shipped, but there are many factors to consider when calculating costs. For example:

  • Shipping to a home is more expensive than shipping to a business.
  • Weight of bottles and size of box can increase costs.
  • There is an extra charge to ensure adult signatures for wine delivery
  • Delivering in rural areas costs more due to extra driving time
  • Gas and labor costs keep rising
  • If climate-controlled vehicles are needed, that will cost more.
  • Lastly, the cost of packing materials.

As you can see, shipping wine is a safe choice and may be convenient if you don’t want to lug around several bottles of wine while you travel, but it can add up fast.

Plus, if you are doing extended travel from region to region, you may want to transport wine safely from one place to another without flying, but you still want to have a convenient way to transport several wine bottles safely.

This is where a wine travel bag or suitcase can really save the day!

What travel wine case is right for you?

So you’ve traveled, you’ve sipped, you’ve savored and now you want to take some wine home. You don’t want to pay to have your wine shipped, or you may just want to keep drinking your wine throughout an extended vacation but you need a solution to keep it safe in transit.

Don’t worry, I’ve got you. I have researched the heck out of this topic and whether you are bringing home one bottle or 12, I have put together some great options for getting that precious cargo home.
