Colonel Davenport House

The Palmer Family Residence

808 N Brady St, Davenport, IA 52803

The Palmer Family Residence was the home of the prominent Palmer family of Chiropractors. In 1912 this historic residence was home to Dr. B.J Palmer, who was known as The Developer of Chiropractic and his wife Marbel, The Lady of Chiropractic. Dr. B.J Palmer ran the Palmer School of Chiropractic until his death in 1961 and his wife, Mabel, studied anatomy, wrote a textbook as well as taught anatomy at Palmer for more than 35 years. Both were posthumously named a distinguished Fellows in the Palmer Academy of Chiropractic in 2006.

Their family legacy continues to this day with a number of current practicing Chiropractors. The Palmer Family residence is now a historic home and Chiropractic Museum on the campus of the Palmer College of Chiropractic.

The home is open to the public with guided tours Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. The tours are about one hour long and include the entire first floor of the residence. Many of the rooms are still set up how the Palmers had them while they lived there.

Rock Island Arsenal Museum
