Hotel Spotlight: Family review of Best Western Plus Hacienda Hotel in Old Town San Diego, CA

Located in the heart in the hear of the city, the Best Western Plus Hacienda Hotel Old Town San Diego is our favorite place to drop our bags. The location is fantastic. You are walking distance from all the restaurants, shops and historical sites. This makes staying here extremely convenient, especially if you plan on partaking in all the opportunities to enjoy wonderful tequilas and tasty yard beers.  Even though we travel with kids, we make our rounds to our favorite watering-holes. If you would like to know where to drink in Old Town, check out my post HERE.

Another Place & Time:

The atmosphere is tranquil and charming, surrounding guests in early Californian Spanish-style. The wrap around balconies whine endlessly throughout the property. The beautiful palm trees, colorful flowers and peaceful fountains add a sense of serenity. There are plenty of courtyards and conversations areas to gather, enjoy a cool drink and take in the beautiful backdrop. Plus, you get a free drink voucher upon check-in. So, you are ready to enjoy your stay right away.

After a long day walking (and drinking) our way through Old Town, we like to end the day by taking the kids to the pool. When the kids are officially wiped-out we put them to bed and enjoy some adult conversation and tequila on the balcony as we over look the beautiful city below.

Money Saving Tips

Like most decent hotels in Old Town San Diego, the rates are usually pretty pricey. A typical night stay will run you about $250 a night. However, there are ways to get some pretty decent deals. The Hacienda offers a rewards program which sends specials through your email.  Honestly, the best deal I’ve had was through AAA at $99 a night. The rooms are a nice size with a sofa, wifi, hair dryer, iron, ironing board, microwave, and coffee maker. They even have a mini-fridge, which is nice if you need to keep milk for the babies. Each room comes with two complimentary cold bottles of water and a complimentary breakfast at the Tequila Factory! Check Rates.

Other amenities include:

  • Fitness center
  • Old Town Tequila Factory Restaurant and Cantina
  • Room Service
  • Free airport, Amtrak and Cruise Terminal shuttles

Tequila Factory:

Connected just behind the Hacienda Hotel, the Tequila Factory is actually a full-service restaurant. When you stay at the hotel, you receive a complimentary breakfast buffet! It is so yummy, with homemade tortillas as well as many other delicious Mexican dishes. We usually save our welcome drink vouchers to change in for our breakfast Bloody Mary’s.  Oh and the views! The views from the patio are breathtaking as it hovers high above Old Town. For more on where to drink in Old Town, see my other post.

  1. Looks like a nice place. I had no idea the rates in San Diego were that high. Glad I have AAA it has come in handy on more than one occasion.

  2. Looks good! The prices definitely seem very reasonable for the facilities and standard of service on offer. And the Tequila Factory sounds like my kind of place – Bloody Mary’s in the morning? Yes please 🙂

    • Yeah and we usually get our room for $99 with AAA. You have to try the homemade street tacos at the breakfast buffet! To die for!

    • The atmosphere and location is what make it our favorite. Plus complimentary drinks & breakfast buffet doesn’t hurt.
