In the U.S, Super Bowl is pretty much a national holiday. Although it is one of the biggest sporting events in the country, it is also known for its rocking halftime show and funny commercials. Even for those who are not super football fans, it is hard to escape the excitement of the Super Bowl and everyone is on the hunt for the best party. I recently wrote an article of Cigar & Spirits Magazine which covered the best Super Bowl parties across the country, but I thought for this post I’d keep it local. Here are Hot Mama’s Picks for Top 5 Super Bowl Parties in California.
Kelsey’s Sports Bar & Grill at Pechanga Resort & Casino is my personal favorite venue to watch football in general, but Super Bowl is going to be off the hook. For $26.95 per adult and $9.95 for kids, you can have a real Sunday Funday with the family. Not only are there fantastic drink specials and yummy buffet menu items, there are tons of activities and goodies to collect. I love the raffle giveaways during the game, because they bring so much excitement and competitive energy. For Super Bowl there will be some high-ticket items up for raffle, so you know things will get crazy. I know it sounds funny, but I enjoy the beer and liquor promo girls and yes, I love collecting logo merchandise. In fact, some of my favorite lounge-tees are liquor promos. Now, let’s talk grub. I was told that the buffet-style menu items will reflect the cities the competing teams of Seattle and Boston. So, I have a feeling that New England clam chowder and Boston baked beans will be an option. Plus, there is going to be nacho and taco bar and there is nothing wrong with that! The game? Oh right! There are plenty of televisions for viewing the game, 18 jumbo screens to be exact and two enormous projection screens!
ESPN Zone at Downtown Disney makes the list for number two. First, let me say that the ticket to reserve a seat for the ultimate viewing party is a bit pricey at $75 a person. The reason it still makes the list is that with the ticket you get a reserved seat in ESPN Zone’s Screening Room with stadium-style seating, $75 food and drink credit, $10 game card for the Sports Arena Arcade and 10% off at the Studio Store. What I love, as someone who rarely ventures out without my babies in tow, is that kids are allowed. Also, the restaurant is still open to the public. If you have ever been to ESPN Zone, then you know that televisions are everywhere. Although the restaurant will most likely be packed, it makes for another great option. Plus, you’re at Downtown Disney, so before or after the game you can have fun exploring with the family.
The Field in San Diego is great for two reasons. First, it is located in the heart of Gaslamp Quarter. Second, it is an Irish pub and Irish pubs are always a good choice for a good time. There is no upfront cost to enter, so early arrival is your best bet. Happy hour prices will be going on throughout the game and during halftime there will be a complimentary spicy wing buffet. The five big screens will be on and airing all the fun, so grab any free seat in the house.
Let’s take it to the Bay then back down to L.A. In San Francisco, hit up Jake’s Steaks. The location is beautiful on the Marina, the neighborhood is good and there is a nice little park nearby to give the kids a break. The drink specials are really thirst quenching. For instance, buy 2 pitchers and get a free side, $3 pints of Coors Light, 6 Bottle Budlights for $15 and a platter of 35 wings for $30.
L.A is known for great parties, so you know there will plenty of options to choose from for the ultimate game viewing bash. I’m going with Barney’s Beanery in West Hollywood, because it is sentimental (it is where my dad hung out in college) and it is a fun atmosphere for the family. The ambiance is colorful, loud and eclectic. There are pool tables and arcade games as well. You can bet there will be a ton of drink specials, including pitchers of beer, mimosas and team themed shots!
These bars are my Top 5 Super Bowl Parties in California, but obliviously there are many amazing venues to celebrate the big game. Parties at home are always fun too! Whenever you choose to celebrate, Super Bowl is the perfect excuse to gather with family and friends, gulp some cold beer and party together!
