Rashes, Ouchies and Bug Bites! Oh My!

rashes, ouchies and bug bites

Good morning…or is it?

This morning baby boy woke up with a rash all over his body. Being a prepared traveling mama, I always come stocked with my mobile pharmacy, but I’m never ready for the shock and stress when your faced with a rash.

My husband was quick to jump into emergency mode, but being on vacation I had to calm it down and think. I took a moment to search his body, inspect the rash and rule out the possible causes. Needless to say, I realized it wasn’t an allergy, but just to double check I called the advice nurse and my suspicions were confirmed. It was just a reaction to medication he had been on the week before. Phew! I turned my attention to HotDaddy who was panicked with Benadryl in hand ready to go and told him it was going to be okay. No itches, no swelling, no pain or drooling! It’s all good. Put the Benadryl away.

Crisis averted, but every trip seems to come with a challenge. Nothing is as smooth as it appears in pictures. Our first RV trip ever, Keeley sat on an ant hill and had bites all over her bottom and legs. Very scary, but my girl handled like a champ. Slap some anti-itch cream on it and move on.

Rashes, Ouchies and Bug Bites:

On various trips we’ve had to deal with rashes, ouchies and bug bites. OH MY! We have had arms be pulled from sockets, colds and weird combinations of crazy. On one camping trip, poor CuddleBear was teething, had a cold and an ear infection. He was super grumpy during the trip and we didn’t understand why until we got home and took him the doctor.

When traveling with kids, expect the the unexpected. Rashes, ouchies, bug bites; colds, fevers and boo boos. It happens, but it’s days like this that I’m reminded that with kids you can never be fully prepared. That is why it is so important to pack a good first aid kit whenever embarking on family travel. Here is a list of what I use the most!

HotMama check list:

  • Anti-itch cream
  • Fever reducer
  • Anti-bacterial cream
  • Swimmers ear drops/ear ache drops
  • Allergy medicine (Benadryl)
  • Band aids
  • Vick’s nasal stick (clears up stuffy noses super fast!)
  • Lots of wine for Mama

What weird injuries have you had to deal during your family travel?

It must’ve been a little scary seeing a rash all over your baby but I’m glad it wasn’t serious & everyone is ok – you handled it like a pro!
