Apple Farm Inn Christmas with Kids

Every season, we like to take our family on a holiday inspired travel. One of our favorites is checking into the Christmas Wonderland that is The Apple Farm Inn. Here, we let our holiday spirit be filled with cheer. Sparkling lights drape over every surface casting a warm glow, jumbo garland adorned with over-sized ornaments frame the windows, doors and staircase and a fire roars in the lobby as guests are invited to enjoy complimentary cookies and refreshments. It truly is as breathtaking as it sounds, which is why we chose to spend our holiday vacation experiencing an Apple Farm Inn Christmas. Come along, see what we saw!

Keep the Cost in Check:

Located in San Luis Obispo, Apple Farm Inn is not a bargain hotel, it is top-notch all the way and the rates don’t ever really drop. Rooms always range from about $200 to $300 a night, but the best value is to book a package. Throughout the year they offer a variety of packages that includes additional activities and goodies with your room, but we love the packages for an Apple Farm Christmas.

We booked the Home Away From Home package, which included a night’s stay at the inn, a $50 dining/shopping credit, Peppermint Turn-down service, wine reception for $200. We paid for an extra night, so with taxes, resort fee and meal charges it came to a little over $400 for the two night stay.

For those looking to do some shopping, check out the Our Gift To You and That’s A Wrap packages. Also check every year, as events and packages do change!

Also, we are proud to announce a new partnership with Apple Farm Inn to bring you the Hot Mama Travel Special Rate.

Drop Your Bags:

THE ROOMS!!! I heart the rooms at the Apple Farm Inn. Recently remodeled to include some shabby chic, each room has a unique style and décor. Every room comes stocked with a cozy fireplace, seating area, television, coffee maker, sparkling cider, souvenir décor apple and of course the plush Apple Farm robes. They even provide real metal keys to the room and during Christmas, each room has golden bells hung on the doors. So cozy and beautiful you’ll want to check-in and never check-out.

Peppermint Turn-down:

This is the perfect Christmas magic for the little ones. Turn-down happens between 6:00pm and 8:00pm, so while we were at dinner Santa visited our rooms, turned on the fireplace and left us peppermint truffles as well as personalized stockings filled with goodies for the kids! I found out the stockings are hand made by the manager, making it even more special. It was very exciting to return to the room and see this wonderful holiday surprise. It is not offered every year, so be sure to check online first.

Get Your Grub On:

The Apple Farm Restaurant is the restaurant at the inn and it is sooo yummy! We dined there both breakfast and dinner, because…why not? The atmosphere is cozy, the food is amazing, the drinks selections are great and guests are provided with dining credit. Of course, you are only minutes from Downtown San Luis Obispo where the dining options are plentiful.

Breakfast:

The omelets are amazing and honestly I could stay a week just to work my way through all the different ones. If you only have a chance to order one, try the Chevre Omelet with goat cheese, jack cheese, balsamic glazed onions, arugula, green olives and mushrooms conserva. It literally made my eyes roll in the back of my head. Plus, all breakfasts come with a muffin. Oh the muffin! Simply perfection!

Dinner:

The pot roast is to die for and something you must try!!! I also really like the beef stroganoff. The meat is fall-a-part tender. Washed down with cold IPA or nice glass of Apple Farm Cabernet and you are in heaven.

Chug-A-Lug:

Wine, wine and more wine!! Apple Farm is situated within wine country, so guests are only minutes from various wineries to enjoying a multitude of tastings. The great thing is that you don’t have to even leave the inn to sip on delicious vino.

Check-in and Sip-on:

Upon check-in every guest is greeted with a welcome glass of Apple Farm wine. We love the Cabernet, so that’s what we enjoyed right from the start. While us adults decompressed after a long drive, enjoying the warm cheerful décor and deep red wine, the kids had a blast exploring the lobby while sipping on hot cider and coco.

Daily Wine Reception:

More wine! Every night at the Apple Farm guests are invited to the free welcome wine reception from 3:00pm to 5:00pm. This is a great chance to try a variety of wines from the local wineries. A table of little nibblers is set out to munch on with your wine. This is held in the Old Mill House, which is beyond cozy. Festively decorated, you’ll want to enjoy your wine by the frosted windows overlooking the creek.

Apple Farm Inn Christmas:

The holiday events kick-off in early November with the opening weekend, which include: holiday crafts and workshops, visits from Santa and much more. Every Saturday until after the holidays, Santa comes between 9:30am and 12:30pm to visit the Apple Farm Inn. Check the monthly calendar for daily events.

While we were staying, we got to participate in Gingerbread Day. During our daily wine reception the kids got to decorate gingerbread cookies. It was a very relaxing experience for us as a family. The kids (and HotDaddy) were happy to decorate and nibble on their cookies, while we sipped and sipped and sipped on local wine.

After the wine reception and gingerbread cookie decorating it was time for the bonfire. Our family kind of took over, but it was really fun. We gathered around the warm fire, toasted marshmallows and sipped on hot apple cider. The kids burned off the sugar by running in the grass lawn behind the Old Mill House.

Hot tub and pool:

There is a pool at the Apple Farm Inn and although it was too cold to enjoy the pool, we did enjoy the hot tub after dinner. One last effort to burn up some excess energy, the kids really loved being out in the cold night air in a warm Jacuzzi and yes, it worked! They were tired and ready to relax while us adults enjoyed one (or two) more bottles of wine.

Shopping! Come ladies, we love our shopping and it is even better during the holidays! The shop is all decked out making my heart skip a beat. The kids can have fun too! The shop has created a game for the kids. They are asked to find DASH the missing elf, who is hidden somewhere in the shop. Winners receive a reward. It was a very competitive in my family and the kids were not giving up the hunt, which is fine for us ladies…more shopping time. Luckily, we found DASH! The Boss found him one day and Firecracker found him the next; both kiddos winning the family some fresh baked pies from the bakery. So we were all winners.

Pretty much love anything to do with apples, particularly cider. I’m glad to hear that the adults were just as well entertained as the kids!
