Happy New Year! I can’t believe how fast 2014 went, despite my greatest efforts to savor every moment. As a new year begins I can’t help but look back fondly on the last years’ events. So, in honor of the first day of 2015, I thought it only fitting to reflect on my 2014 Top 12 Travels.
As a family we love to visit the historic Queen Mary, but this year we visited during the Scottish Festival for the first time. It was really exciting with tons of activities for the kids. Firecracker learned the art of archery and log tossing; Cuddle Bear loved the bounce house and HotDaddy and I really enjoyed the Scottish tradition of consuming ale!
Cuddle Bear’s birthday is the day before St. Patrick’s Day, which is a pretty big deal in our family. So, decided to take a trip and celebrate both! We didn’t have to go far. We parked the RV at the Newport Dunes to enjoy a weekend at the beach, conveniently located for local family and friends to pop by to celebrate with us.
Although as a family we had been to Florida before, this was our first time to St. Pete Beach. We were full of excitement and anticipation as we made our way to one of the best beaches in the country. Needless to say, we had a fantastic week on the Gulf. The Tradewinds Island Grand was amazing with endless activities for families and the beach was gorgeous with powdery white sand and warm clear water.
What better way to celebrate Independence Day than hitting the open road and getting out of town? This year we headed up the mountain to Big Bear to enjoy some time by the lake. Crazily enough, we had some weird weather including rain, thunderstorms and earthquakes and never got to take the boat out, but that didn’t stop us from having fun!
We made several visits to this historical town this year. I can’t really put into words the feeling I get here, but I just love the vibe in Old Town San Diego. Whenever we are feeling restless, we beeline it to Old Town to sip on tequila, down some yarders, smoke some cigars, let the kids run around in the plaza, eat some bomb Mexican food and maybe even see some ghosts.
This summer Firecracker and Cuddle Bear made their first visit to SeaWorld. They loved all the hands-on interactive exhibits and all the wonderful sea life. We had such a wonderful time, we decided to upgrade our tickets to annual passes so we could come back to enjoy the holiday celebrations. We returned for the Halloween Spooktactular twice and once for the Christmas Celebration.
I’m a Vegas girl and have been going since I was baby, so it is only natural that I would continue to visit with my babies. We try to make a trip at least once a year. Despite what others may think, Vegas is so much more than just a Sin City. In fact, there are tons of activities for families to enjoy. There are fascinating hotels, amazing pools, great restaurants and plenty of live entertainment. We always have a fantastic time in Las Vegas and this year was no exception.
Coinciding with Firecracker’s birthday celebrations is our Mission Bay RV trip. The location is beautifully located on the bay and close to some of our favorite San Diego haunts such as Old Town, the San Diego Zoo and Seaport Village, just to name a few.
We are annual passport holders, so every year since Firecracker’s birth has been all about Disney. We frequent the park multiple times a month. Different times of the year yield different experiences. The winter means fewer crowds, the spring has great weather, summer has long hours for parting all night and fall begins the holiday festivities. By now, we have our Disney routine down making our visits a integral part of our family’s traditions.
Just as trick-or-treating is a long held tradition of Halloween, so is RVing at Vail Lake for Vampire Vail Weekend. At least it is in our family, anyway. Every year we have a theme and this year we all went as Zombie Cheerleaders. Grams and Papa went as our Zombie coaches. We relax by the day and party all night. Halloween dance parties, zombie hayrides and haunted houses are just some of the many activities to partake in at Vail Lake during October. As soon as summer comes to an end Firecracker and Cuddle Bear start getting excited for a spooky weekend trip.
This year, was Firecracker and Cuddle Bear’s first trip to Solvang, a sweet Danish village in central California. It made for a fun little pit stop on our way to San Luis Obispo. We walked around, had some lunch, drank some local beer, nibbled on some Danish treats and tasted some local wine.
We always start the holidays with a festively themed travel, which also makes for a sort of grand finally to the year. This year we stayed at the beautiful Apple Farm Inn. It was a wonderful choice. We were surrounded by the cheerfully gorgeous Christmas décor. We relaxed, enjoying festive activities like cookie decorating, roasting marshmallows and wine tasting. It was the perfect cozy weekend to put us into the Christmas spirit.
Wow! What a year! We had so much fun in 2014 and so many wonderful experiences as a family. I can’t help, but feel very excited for all the incredible travels that 2015 will bring. Time to start planning, budgeting and saving for another exhilarating year! Happy New Year!!
